Columbia ShoesMy experiences as a friend of a podiatrist seem to be paying off now when I buy cold weather boots for hiking. I know this may have raised a few eyebrows already but my point is who knows my podiatric conditions better than I? I am no big fitness freak which places more importance on protection from frostbite and wetness related ailments. Although, occasionally I walk around in sandals this expedition to cold weathers of close to -300C is way too different. Drop in temperatures till -510C is type-2 of cold conditions but my diabetes certainly won’t permit venturing around there.
I browsed a few hiking boots which appealed to me by way of their robust construction in waterproof suede, a solid nylon shank at soles to provide stability, gusseted tongue and molded EVA soles. Well, the label on it proudly said that it was made for all-seasons but my need was different. Ludaman Pass™ Mid WP and Trail Meister™ shoe were real stunners in the category. I was seeking greater cold and wetness protection to keep my veins and arteries warm and pumping. Bugalicious™ and Cascadian Summette cold weather boots caught my eyes with Faux fur lining and a through bungee cord lacing line-up. This meant that I could fasten accurately where I wanted. The nubuk waterproof leather and the additional ‘rubber includes’ at tongue for snow-shoe binding ensured my vote. Seam sealed construction, low weight and the soft & gripping sole layers were enough to take care of the requisite protection regime.
